1-2-1 Advice & Support-Drop in Sessions
August 2020 Update
Due to the ongoing social distancing restrictions surrounding COVID -19 we are unable to resume our usual weekly term-time drop-in sessions in September.
This is due to operational restrictions in place at the venues. We are however able to offer some appointment only options at our Gravesend venue, City Praise Centre, commencing Thursday 17th September.
These appointments will take place in observing strict social distancing procedures. We are only able to accommodate one person per allocated appointment time.
This is to ensure the safety of all concerned.
You will need to call Family Advice T:01322 668501 option 1 to book an appointment.
At the present time, we do not have dates to resume drop-ins in either Dartford or Sevenoaks.
Once our venues become available we will operate on an appointment-only basis as per at Gravesend detailed above. We will, therefore, be offering some further appointments at Allsworth Court until the other venues re-open.
Additionally, we will continue to offer telephone, e-mail, and video call support as we have done throughout this Pandemic.
If you do need advice and support please do call us as our staff team are working their usual hours (both from home and the office).
All face to face support groups is currently suspended. Until such times that we are able to host a face to face group, we propose to set aside each term week, Tuesday mornings from 10.30 – 12.30, time for a Zoom meeting.
This will be hosted by two advisers as an opportunity to meet and chat with each other. The first meeting will be Tuesday 15th September.
If you wish to join our group video call, please ring Family Advice for meeting log in details.
The Zoom app (ZoomUS) can be downloaded free of charge to smartphones, IPads and laptops.
SUSPENDED DUE TO COVID-19 Please see the notice above
This service is offered to families in the Dartford, Gravesham and Sevenoaks District.
We are able to offer this support to parents as we have many years of experience of working with parents of disabled children. We can help you through the maze of services, agencies and processes and help you to prioritise the key areas of support needed.
This is particularly useful around the time of diagnosis where parents often feel isolated and are unsure of what to do next.
Advisers are available at regular Drop in Advice Sessions where no appointment is necessary, or in exceptional circumstances by a home visit. Additionally, bookable appointments may be available at Allsworth Court, Hextable.
Here are just a few areas of support given:
- Help parents draft letters to request and access support.
- Signpost to other specialists.
- Give strategies to manage challenging behaviour.
- Give a good listening ear on any concerns.
- Information on dealing with education professionals to ensure your child receives the right support.
- Ideas on where to take your child for leisure activities that have special services for a disabled child.
