Last year we raised £3600 to pay for our more severe and complex disabled children to go on days out over the summer and Easter holidays. We took them places such as swimming to a private pool. Imagine not being able to go swimming in the local pool. It’s such a great past time. Non-disabled children take this for granted. Many of the local leisure centres can’t cope with disabled children, their equipment, or have the specialist changing facilities. The children can’t deal with the noise, how busy it is, so they just simply miss out on something that should be available to all children. We can change this. We hire a private pool, a lifeguard and take the children with 1-1 care to the pool. The benefits are wide-reaching. The children get to exercise, it improves their mental and physical health, they have fun and their family gets a break from the constant cycle of care.
