Description/Details of Role:
Part-time PA required.
Assisting a radiant and intelligent 5-year-old girl with a passion for interaction, play, and the
outdoors. Our daughter exudes energy and is always in pursuit of fun activities. Although she is
pre-verbal, her determination to learn and develop her speech is evident. She shares a deep bond
with her parents, but her active nature can be exhaustive. She is the middle child, with a loving 3-
year-old sister and a caring 7-year-old sister.
As a family, we are deeply committed to nurturing our daughters, often planning days out and
engaging in various activities to enrich their lives. We are in search of a compassionate individual
with emotional intelligence to support us with our daughter, aiming to alleviate the unique
challenges that come with managing both autism and diabetes. This support will greatly enhance
the quality of life for our entire family.
Objective:
To provide tailored care and support to our daughter, and to assist the family as needed. The carer
will ensure her safety, well-being, and enjoyment, assist in day-to-day activities, monitor her
health, and promote a positive and constructive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Personal Care, Play, and Mealtime monitoring:
Engage in interactive play, both indoors and outdoors, adapting activities to her interests
and needs.
Support during trips to the local park, walks, and garden activities.
Assist with tidying up after play and activities.
Help with bathing and preparing her for bed when required.
Monitoring her food and record carbohydrate intake.
Occasionally assist in preparing snacks for her school start on Mondays.
Health Monitoring:
Monitor and maintain her blood-sugar levels, ensuring they are within safe limits.
Ensure her diabetes monitoring devices are kept in range throughout the day.
Administer any necessary medication and/or insulin shots.
Respond proactively to any sudden changes in her health.
Safety and Well-being:
Ensure her safety during all activities.
Provide emotional support and utilise techniques conducive to her autism.
Foster a calm and positive environment.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
Experience working with children with autism.
First aid certified, with a preference for those knowledgeable in paediatric first aid.
A valid Enhanced Child Workforce DBS check is required. Candidates with an up-to-date
Enhanced Child Workforce DBS check will be required to provide it if successful in the
application.
Right to work in the UK.
Desirable:
Basic awareness of type 1 diabetes. Training can be provided if necessary.
Knowledge or experience in speech and language support.
Excellent references from previous employers or families.
Skills and Attributes:
Patient and understanding, especially in high-pressure situations.
Proactive and adaptable, able to adjust to varying situations.
Excellent communication skills, both with adults and children.
Strong observational skills to detect changes in health or behaviour.
Physical fitness to keep up with an active 5-year-old during outdoor activities.
Rate of Pay: £10.57
