This role is to provide support and assistance to a 14 year old boy who has Down Syndrome, to enable them to reach their full potential and independence. To assist them to access social clubs, going to the cinema, bowling, going to cafe for cakes, his favourite thing, or going for lunch. Going to the park, to play ball, picnics in summer etc.
Key main tasks:
● To have a knowledge of the characteristics and profile of down syndrome
● Understanding of Makaton and children with limited speech.
● Assistance with going to toilet, needs encouragement to wash hands and little bit of help to wipe if needed.
● Pushing him in a wheelchair if needed, as uses it when tired.
● Having fun together and encouraging his independence.
● Keeping him safe, as his safety awareness is still improving.
● To learn his characteristics and behaviour
● To have lots of patience
Hourly rate of pay: £11.44
Hours available:
This is to work 6 hrs after school in term time or a few hours at the weekend if available. The hours can be very flexible. Also to cover occasional hours in the school holidays.
Driving licence with business insurance will be required, so he can be taken out.
An enhanced DBS for working with children will be required, which I will arrange if an up to date clearance is needed.
