We Listen. We Care. We Are Beams.

We Are Beams understand the challenges of caring for a disabled child 24/7 and how for many families this can be an overwhelming, isolating and emotional experience.

Families that include a disabled person or child are more likely to be in poverty than those living in families that do not include a disabled person. This constant financial strain can be overwhelming for many families and they feel alone with no one to turn to.

The Beams Family Advice Team provide the right support to allow parents to make the best choices for their disabled child, providing information and advice on financial matters, education, health and emotional support.

We believe that children deserve the right to an education whatever their disability. Sadly, many families will struggle to access the right education for their disabled child.

Our Family Advice Service help families put long term coping strategies in place, helping families to ensure their wishes and child’s voices are heard.

A donation of just £10, will provide the initial call with a Family Advisor, helping a family in crisis to start their journey to a bigger and brighter future. Our team of advisors, many with disabled children of their own provide support groups, 1 to 1 advice clinics, telephone helpline and parent workshops and courses, to enable families to be better equipped to deal with the emotions and challenges of raising a child with disabilities.

Kelly and her husband were becoming increasingly overwhelmed with Zach’s behaviour, which included meltdowns and rages and the family were at crisis point. Zach aged 9 has been diagnosed with ADHD and Alyssa aged 4 with ASD.

Kelly contacted We Are Beams and the Family Advice Team invited Kelly to take part in Cygnet parenting programme, created to support parents with a child with ASD.

The oversubscribed six-week course covers the topics of autism and diagnosis, communication, sensory issues, understanding behavior and coping strategies.

Kelly enjoyed taking part and by listening to other parents she realised she was not alone and began to learn coping strategies and techniques to understand her children’s behaviour.

Kelly is grateful to everyone at Beams and knows that her family is a much better position now

“The Cygnet Parenting Programme has really helped my family and Zach is now much happier and confident. It is a relief to know that ongoing support is available at Beams as and when we need it in the future.”
