We Are Beams

Ewan’s Story

Ewan is thirteen years old; he lives with his parents and younger brother. He is a very active teenager, loves playing on the trampoline, and his favourite day out is going the beach and jumping in the sea…. in all weathers!

Ewan has ASD, ADHD, OCD and a severe learning disability and due to his additional needs, he cannot access holiday clubs, or the days out most children take for granted.

For Ewan’s family they desperately want Ewan to have the same opportunities and experiences as other children his age, so they are so relieved to have found We Are Beams.

Beams have provided Ewan with a range of support and specialised care including day trips to the zoo and overnight respite in Dragon’s Retreat where Ewan can spend time with other young people, have fun and learn life skills such as cooking and household chores.

The experienced team of support staff enable Ewan the independence and freedom other 13 year olds get to enjoy especially in the garden, as he loves to be outdoors.

Kerrie, Ewan’s mum and her family are so grateful to Beams and want to give something back to Beams so have chosen to take part in a number of challenges to raise money for the charity so Ewan and other children can continue receiving the invaluable support

They have recently run the London Landmark Half Marathon and other fundraising events and raised over £1000 for Beams.

Kerrie explains why Beams is so important to her family,

“Knowing Ewan is safe and having a great time at Beams gives me peace of mind, Beams provides experiences most children take for granted, like days out and independence that Ewan wouldn’t otherwise have.”

We Are Beams believe that children with the most complex disabilities can thrive and reach their full potential with the right support.
