Our mission is to provide comprehensive support services to children and young people with any form of physical, learning or sensory impairment living in Dartford, Gravesham, Sevenoaks and the surrounding areas.
We aim to support the whole family through a range of services that directly benefit and assist those dealing with the challenges of raising a disabled child.
Our vision is to be the leading provider of support for disabled children and young people in Kent. Using our expertise, we help them to have more independence and control of their futures.
The values that underpin the work of Beams are:
- Service Excellence
- People focused
- Responsive to needs
- Promoting an inclusive agenda
- Beneficiary involvement in the development of services
- Regular and systematic monitoring and evaluation
- Increasing social awareness of disability
- Collaborative working with professionals and charities
Beams was established as a charity in 1996 by a group of parents. They believed that they could deliver better support for their disabled child by working together, rather than the help they were currently getting through the local authority. They became directly accountable to the parents, carers and young people who accessed their services.
Since then the charity has grown significantly and we now offer five key services to at least 450 parents and children at any one time.
We have big ambitions to continue to grow our services to ensure that we can continue to support all disabled children and young people.
