Our 10-year-old son is a cheeky, smiley, sweetie. He is autistic and struggles to talk – but he understands everything you say! He uses a speech device to tell us all sorts of things, and more recently has started to say some words with his mouth.
He loves going to parks, playgrounds and soft play centres – and despite being very sensitive to noise (he wears ear defenders most of the time) he is happy being around other people and has built up lovely bonds with other PAs.
His main difficulties are that he can be quite shouty if frustrated/excited (not always easy to tell which!) and he puts things in his mouth that he shouldn’t. He is toilet-trained but does need some support.
We are looking for someone to take our son out and about – either to our local park or something similar to give him a sense of independence outside of the family.
You don’t need to have any specialised training – just a genuine interest in supporting a child with a disability and a good sense of humour! He knows how to use his speech device – but he just needs encouragement to use it sometimes.
We have four hours available in term time and six hours available each week in the chill holidays and are flexible about when – either after school or at the weekends. It doesn’t have to be every week.
An enhanced DBS certificate for working with children will be required.
Rate of pay: £11.44 per hour
