Work has now started to transform our garden into an inclusive environment.
For children like Ciaran, the garden will make such a difference. Ciaran is eleven and has Down’s syndrome, is a diabetic and has ASD and ADHD. Ciaran’s disabilities affect him in many ways; he finds it difficult to socialise and make friends and struggles in busy environments. He loves spending time outside and exploring in the garden and having a new purpose-built garden will provide huge both physical and mental health benefits.
The vision is that the new garden will accommodate a number of different activities and zones including:
- Sensory Garden with edible plants and water features to stimulate the senses
- Fully Accessible Playground which will include equipment suitable for the most physically disabled children to enjoy.
- Grow your Own for all to enjoy growing vegetables that can be then used in the kitchen.
- Quiet and Calm-many of the children suffer from sensory impairment so this area will provide a calm and tranquil space for storytelling or just some alone time.
