England Wheelchair Rugby League Team and Lighthouse Safety Tackle Charity Challenge for We Are Beams.
The England Wheelchair Rugby League Team recently teamed up with Lighthouse Safety and local charity We Are Beams for a thrilling wheelchair rugby match held on Sunday 9th June at Medway Park in Gillingham, Kent.
As one of the only full-contact disability sports, it is little wonder wheelchair rugby has been one of the biggest hits at the Paralympic Games over the last ten years. This charity match displayed the athleticism and teamwork required in wheelchair rugby, by both disabled and non-disabled players.
The event raised over £1,200 in support of We Are Beams, who provide care services to disabled young people and their families.
Stephen Laws, General Manager at Lighthouse Safety, who offer bespoke Health, Safety & Environmental Training and Compliance Services, explained why he organised the match.
“After learning about We Are Beams and the amazing work they do, I knew we wanted to support them. We are already involved in supporting the England Wheelchair Rugby Team and thought this would be a perfect way to combine our efforts!”
Six members from Lighthouse Safety took part plus Luke Cashin from We Are Beams.
It was the first time of playing this fully inclusive sport for Luke, Fundraising Manager for Beams,
“We are incredibly grateful to Lighthouse Safety for organising and sponsoring the match and to the England Wheelchair Rugby League Team for their participation and incredible spirit. The support from everyone involved will allow us to continue offering essential services to those who need them most.”
