Commonwealth Games medallist, Team GB Paralympian and Beams Patron, JohnBoy Smith continues to inspire others by taking on another extraordinary fundraising challenge racing in his wheelchair in the Sydney Marathon in support of disabled children and their families.
Taking place on Sunday 30th August, the Sydney Marathon is the largest marathon in Australasia. The elite wheelchair race will see competitors cross the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge before passing famous landmarks including Circular Quay and Centennial Park, with a spectacular finish in front of the world-renowned Sydney Opera House.
The course is renowned for its difficulty, featuring a series of demanding climbs, steep descents, and technical sections that will provide a true test of endurance, strength, and determination. It promises to be another tough challenge for JohnBoy, as he continues to inspire others while raising much-needed funds for Beams.
Sharing his thoughts on this latest challenge, JohnBoy said:
“I’m incredibly honoured to be taking on this challenge for We Are Beams, a charity that I am so proud to support. Racing the Sydney Marathon in my wheelchair will definitely test my endurance and push me to the limit. But more than anything, I want to use this opportunity to raise awareness of the vital, life-changing work Beams does for so many families, while showing that disability should never limit ambition or possibility.”
Over the past three decades, Beams has helped thousands of families navigate the complex challenges of caring for disabled children. The vital care services include Family Advice, Short Breaks, Dragon’s Retreat Respite, Supporting Independence, and Payroll Services all providing practical help, emotional support, and meaningful opportunities for disabled children and their families.
All proceeds from this challenge will go towards providing essential care to the most vulnerable members of the community for the next 30 years and beyond.
