In February 2025, Beams will be holding our first online art auction called “Inspired Expressions”.

This exciting new event aims to raise vital funds through the generous donations of artwork from local artists.

We are thrilled to announce that several artists have already jumped on board with our exciting project including local Carpenter, Shaun Austen. Shaun is a self-taught artist with a passion for creating art forms from wood.

We recently caught up with Shaun to find out more about his artwork, and why he has decided to contribute to “Inspired Expressions”.

“I have been a commercial carpenter for 38 years, and it’s been a privilege to have a career that I’m so passionate about. I take great pride in the work I create.

As a child, dyslexia presented challenges in school. But, looking back, I see that it ignited a unique perspective within me. It unlocked a vision that allows me to see the world differently, which I now channel through my art.

From my carpentry background, I discovered that I could create artwork from chainsaw carving and resin. I am self-taught and love experimenting with wood, creating animal sculptures and functional pieces that blend art and utility like my river tables.

Today, I am fortunate to have turned my passion into a fulfilling career. I love taking commissions, from cosy coffee tables to sculptures. Each piece is a labour of love, a chance to reveal the hidden beauty within the wood itself.

Inspired Expression seemed like the perfect opportunity to give back to a cause I know does so much for disabled children and families.”
